How does Generic Zovirax Ointment (Acyclovir) work?
The herpes virus needs an enzyme called DNA polymerase to copy its genetic material from RNA to DNA. This process is necessary for the virus to multiply and continue to survive. When Generic Zovirax Ointment (Acyclovir) is applied, its active ingredient Acyclovir is converted to a more active form inside those cells of the body that are infected with herpes simplex. Acyclovir then works by blocking the action of the DNA polymerase. This way it prevents the herpes virus from reproducing and infecting more cells. This controls the infection and helps the immune system to deal with it.
Apply sufficient quantity to adequately cover all lesions every 3 hours, 6 times per day for 7 days.
