Is it safe to use Ovral-G if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?

Ovral-G is classed as Pregnancy Category X by the FDA. This means it is not safe to use during pregnancy and could be harmful to an unborn baby. If you are pregnant or think you may be pregnant, stop taking Ovral-G and contact your doctor immediately. If you have just given birth within the last 3 months or suffered a miscarriage or abortion, you should consult your doctor about reliable forms of birth control and find out when it is safe to start using birth control containing estrogen.

Ovral-G passes into breast milk. This may affect milk production and may be harmful for a nursing infant. It is not recommended to take this medication while breastfeeding a baby.

What is the recommended dosage of Ovral-G?

The recommended dosage of Ovral-G to postpone menstruation is one tablet per day, starting from the 20th day of the menstrual cycle. This will postpone your period until the 40th day of the cycle.

The recommended dosage of Ovral-G for the treatment of endometriosis is one tablet per day, for a period of 6-12 months. This dosage may be increased to 2-3 tablets per day, in case of breakthrough bleeding.

The recommended dosage of Ovral-G to treat bleeding of the uterus is one tablet per day for 20-21 days, starting on the 5th day of the cycle. Stop taking the tablets for 7-8 days after the initial 21-day period. If breakthrough bleeding occurs, the dosage may be increased to 2-3 tablets daily. For acute cases of uterine bleeding, the recommended dosage is 2-4 tablets a day until the bleeding stops. Then the dosage should be decreased to 1-2 pills daily, taken for a continuous period of 20-21 days. Three days after you stop taking the pills, withdrawal bleeding will occur.

The recommended dosage of Ovral-G for the treatment of dysmenorrhea or other menstrual irregularities is one pill per day starting from the 5th day of the cycle. Treatment should be continued for 20-21 days, then discontinued for 7-8 days. Three days after you stop taking the pills, withdrawal bleeding will occur. For the second cycle of treatment and all cycles thereafter, take one pill per day, starting on the 8th or 9th day of the cycle. Make sure to take this medication at approximately the same time every day. Leave no longer than 24 hours in between dosages. To prevent nausea and stomach upsets, it is recommended to take this medication after your evening meal or before bedtime.
